I am currently a resident of Washington, D.C., and a second year Master of Public Policy student (Environmental and Regulatory Policy). Hence the blog title (you might have figured that out from about “district policy”
I’m currently writing a thesis entitled Smart Growth For Strong Communities: Which Existing Smart Growth Features Lead to Highly Desirable Neighborhoods? In the past, I’ve worked as a research assistant on a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts; for a consulting firm doing research on tax policies and incentives for sustainable development; for several nonprofits working on low income housing issues; and as a full time technical assistant doing grant admin and redevelopment policy for the State of New Jersey. I want to go into urban policy and development/redevelopment. I find cities fascinating. And you know you’re a grad student when you list your research before your personal information. Damn.
I’m originally from New Jersey, and by originally, I mean “until August 2007″. This July I had an amazing Quarter-Of-A-Century Party. I own a 24 year old thoroughbred gelding named Regal (he lives in New Jersey and teaches lessons. I love him).
things i love:
- Regal / riding & showing horses.
- Reading, pretty much anything.
- Asian food.
- Philadelphia sports & Georgetown basketball (sports in general, really).
- The Jersey Shore.
- Being from New Jersey in general.
- Trader Joe’s.
- Policy school (most days).
- My friends (always).
things that annoy me:
- People who don’t know what the word feminism means.
- People who diss on NJ when they haven’t been there.
- Pink sports gear for teams whose colors don’t include pink. I.E. Pink Phillies hats. Wear your teams colors or don’t bother.
- People who confuse YOUR and YOU’RE. (hint, if you tell me, your beautiful, I think, you’re unimportant.
